Changes to empty strings in Destinations — 20 October 2023

We have made changes to how String null values are handled across all datasets in Destinations. These changes will be reflected in all Destinations exports from the October 17, 2023 run onwards.

Going forward, empty string values will be represented as 'NULL' in data warehouse destinations such as Amazon RedShift, Google BigQuery, and Snowflake; and as empty in data storage destinations such as Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, and Google Cloud Storage, as well as in the Email destination.

As a result of this change, you may need to update how you handle empty String values. Please make sure to update any filters that exclude 'none' data to instead exclude 'NULL' or 'empty', depending on which destination you are using. This will ensure that your data is handled correctly and prevent any errors or issues that may arise due to this change.
