Bulk editing customers

Bulk editing allows you to update multiple customer profiles at the same time from within a customer list. Update their owner, status, lead and trial dates, custom attributes and tags.

Typical uses include reassigning leads after a team change, updating lead status for a filtered segment, applying tags in bulk, and correcting lead or trial dates across imported records.

With bulk editing, it’s possible to update:

Here’s what we cover in this article:

Only Owner, Admin, or Staff roles can bulk edit customers.

Before you begin

Limitations

  • Maximum 1,000 customers can be selected at one time.
  • Maximum three custom attributes can be edited per bulk edit operation.
  • Status cannot be manually changed for Active Subscribers, Past-due Subscribers, or Cancelled Subscribers.
  • Owner, Lead Created At, and Trial Started At fields cannot be cleared (set to blank) during a bulk edit.
  • Trial Started At date must be later than Lead Created At date; if the order is incorrect, ChartMogul skips the update for affected customers.
  • Dates can only be set to the current date or in the past.

Selecting multiple customers

Navigate to Customers and select or create a customer list.

Use the checkboxes in customer rows to select multiple customers.

Adjust the owner, status, lead and trial dates, custom attributes or tags:

  • Click the Edit icon to begin editing a field.
  • Click the Confirm icon to confirm your edit.
  • Click the Delete icon to cancel your edit.
  • Set a field to blank and click the Confirm icon to clear its value for the selected customers. ChartMogul doesn’t allow clearing the Owner, Lead Created At or Trial Started At fields during a bulk edit.

Updating the owner

Use the Owner drop-down to choose the owner from team members.

Updating the status

Use the Status drop-down to select one of the following statuses:

Updating the lead and trial dates

Select the Lead Created At and Trial Started At dates using the date picker in each field. Selected dates must be the current date or in the past.

The lead date must always precede the trial date. ChartMogul retains a customer’s existing lead or trial dates when bulk edited dates are not in this order.

For example, a customer’s Lead Created At date is May 5, 2025. During a bulk edit, a team member adds March 1, 2025 as the Trial Started At date. ChartMogul doesn’t update the trial start date for this customer as it is before their lead created date.

When bulk editing customers with blank Lead Created At fields, ChartMogul adds the Trial Started At date as their Lead Created At date.

For example, a team member adds September 1, 2025 as the trial start date. When the lead created field is blank, September 1, 2025 also becomes the customer’s Lead Created At date.

Adding tags

Click + and enter tags in the field.

When a tag you’ve entered is present in some of the selected customers, ChartMogul only adds the tag to those who don’t have it.

Updating custom attributes

ChartMogul lists each custom attribute as a separate field under Custom Attributes:

  • For numbers, enter a value in the field.
  • For strings, select an existing value or enter a new one.
  • For booleans, select True or False from the drop-down.
  • For timestamps, use the date picker to select a date and enter a time.

Confirming your edits

Once you’ve made your edits, click UPDATE.
