Chart: Average Order Value

The Average Order Value (AOV) chart tracks the average transaction size of non-subscription payments over time.

For SaaS businesses that sell one-time products or services alongside subscriptions, it's a useful measure of how much revenue each individual invoice generates — and whether that figure is trending up or down. Unlike Average Spend Per Customer, AOV is calculated per invoice rather than per customer.

Calculation

ChartMogul calculates Average Order Value as the total transaction amount received from non-recurring (non-subscription) payments divided by the total number of paid invoices.

Chart Data

The Chart Data table for Average Order Value works differently than other charts. It provides the following breakdown:

  • Paid Invoices — The total transaction amount and number of invoices from successful non-recurring payments.
  • Average Order Value — The total transaction amount from non-recurring payments divided by the total number of paid invoices.
  • Change — The increase or decrease from the previous report interval, shown as a percentage.
