This glossary defines common terms you might encounter while using ChartMogul and our Help Center.

Active

An Active Subscriber has at least one active and no past-due subscriptions. Learn about Customer and subscription statuses.

Automation

A set of triggers, conditions, and actions you create to streamline workflows in ChartMogul. Learn about automations.

Calculated Data

Data calculated in ChartMogul, such as MRR movements. Export this data using a destination for further analysis in your data stack. See also source data.

Cancelled

A Cancelled Subscriber has all their subscriptions expired or terminated. Learn about Customer and subscription statuses.

Contact

An individual who works for a company with a current or past relationship with your business. ChartMogul stores contacts on customer records.

Customer

An individual or company with a current or past relationship with your business, viewable in ChartMogul from Customers. ChartMogul stores information such as customer details, contacts, custom attributes and subscriptions on a customer record.

Customer Record

The profile for an individual or company with a current or past relationship with your business, such as leads, current subscribers or former subscribers. ChartMogul stores contacts on customer records and classifies each record with a customer status.

Custom Attribute

An additional data attribute you add to a customer, contact, or opportunity such as a customer’s last login, the marketing campaign used to acquire them, or the name of their account manager to help with search, filtering, and segmentation. Read more about custom attributes in ChartMogul.

Custom Source

A specific type of source used to import data to ChartMogul without using an integration. A custom source can also be used to import historical data, contacts, manual subscriptions, or when you have customers billed outside of your integration. Import data using the API, structured or flexible CSV import, manual subscriptions, or data tables. Each source must contain plan, customer, and invoice data for ChartMogul to calculate metrics and analytics correctly.

Destination

An external system, such as an Amazon S3, you’ve connected to ChartMogul to export data such as MRR movements, customers, custom attributes, and tags for further analysis. ChartMogul offers standard and advanced destinations. Learn more.

Discount

The amount the price paid by the customer has been reduced, for example, as a result of applying a coupon.

External ID

The unique identifier for a customer imported by ChartMogul from an integration or which you’ve added manually using a custom source. View a customer’s external ID(s) from the Sources section of their record. See also UUID.

Forecast

A projection of future business performance. ChartMogul generates forecasts using subscription events or opportunities. For example, committed monthly recurring revenue (CMRR).

Integration

A connection between ChartMogul and an external system (or service) set up for the purpose of exchanging data. ChartMogul integrates with leading platforms to import customer and subscription billing data and also allows you to export metrics for further analysis. See also third-party integration. Lead

The status of a non-paying individual or company who may eventually become an active subscriber, including those on a free trial. Leads also include those who have only made non-recurring payments and do not have any subscriptions. ChartMogul has four lead statuses: New Lead, Working Lead, Qualified Lead, and Unqualified Lead. Measurement Interval

The unit of time (day, week, month, quarter, or year) used to subdivide a chart’s reporting period into individual report intervals.

New Lead

The default status for customers. If you’re using ChartMogul CRM, use this status while researching if the lead is a good fit to purchase your product or service. Learn about Customer and subscription statuses.

Non-recurring

A single or one-time purchase by a customer such as an add-on or setup fee. Specified as a non-recurring (in-app through the ChartMogul interface) or one time (via CSV or API) invoice line item. Non-recurring (one-time) purchases do not contribute to MRR.

Payment

A transaction where cash has been received from the customer and the payment amount has been applied to an invoice.

Prorated

When the price of a product/service has been adjusted to reflect the period of time it was used by or made available to the customer. For example, reducing the price of a yearly subscription by 50% when the customer uses it for half a year.

Qualified Lead

A non-paying customer who is a good fit to purchase your product or service based on your business’ lead qualification criteria. Learn about Customer and subscription statuses.

Refund

A transaction where cash has been returned to the customer and the refund amount has been applied to an invoice.

Report Interval

A discrete date range. In the context of a chart, one subdivision of the chart’s reporting period based on the chosen measurement interval. For example, a reporting period of January 1, 2022–March 31, 2022 with a measurement interval of month results in the following report intervals: January, February, and March (2022).

Reporting Period

The range of dates you establish for a chart when choosing a from and to date using the date range drop-down menu. Used in conjunction with the measurement interval to establish a chart’s report intervals.

Re-sync

An action to have ChartMogul update your source and re-import up-to-date data from your integration. Learn how a re-sync impacts your data and metrics in your integration guide.

Source

A repository within ChartMogul for your business’ data which ChartMogul uses to store customers and calculate metrics and analytics. Import data using an integration or add a custom source. All datasets must be in the same source for ChartMogul to calculate metrics and analytics correctly. Learn more about importing data for Subscription Analytics or CRM.

Source Data

Data imported from your billing source, transformed to the ChartMogul data model. Export this data using a destination for further analysis in your data stack. See also calculated data.

Tag

A keyword or term added to a customer record to classify and group customers in ChartMogul. Learn more. See also custom attribute.

Third-party Integration

An integration created and maintained by a company other than ChartMogul. See a list of third-party integrations.

Transaction

An attempt to collect and settle a payment (or refund) for an invoice. The status of a transaction can be successful or failed. Transaction data is not required in ChartMogul; however, it is used to generate cash flow reports.

Transaction Fee

The amount paid to a third-party provider to conduct or conclude a transaction, such as a credit card, payment processing, or platform usage fee. Read about how ChartMogul handles transaction fees.

Unqualified Lead

A non-paying customer who is not a good fit to purchase your product or service, or, becomes unresponsive to calls and emails. Learn about Customer and subscription statuses.

UUID (Universally Unique Identifier)

A unique string of 32 hexadecimal characters with four hyphens (such as 6b08636e-6358-11ee-b023-cf509e20fc46) that ChartMogul generates to identify each source, customer, contact, opportunity, plan, plan group, subscription, etc. See also external ID.

Webhook

A lightweight solution for pushing data from one app to another triggered by an event. When the event takes place, the app makes an HTTP request to the URL you configured for the webhook, sending a predefined set of data elements. Read more about ChartMogul’s support for webhooks.

Working Lead

A customer who is in the initial stage of your business’ sales process. Learn about Customer and subscription statuses.
