Reclassification of subscription activity
You’ll need to be an Admin or Owner in ChartMogul to access and change your data settings.
Reclassification of subscription activity is a ChartMogul setting that groups related MRR movements — changes to your monthly recurring revenue — that happen close together in time into a single movement type. It doesn't change the total value of your reported MRR, only how ChartMogul categorizes those movements.
How to Configure Reclassification of Subscription Activity
- Go to :settings~gray: Settings > Data & Integrations > Reporting Settings.
- Select an option from the Reclassify upgrades/downgrades that occur drop-down. This controls the time window ChartMogul uses to group related subscription events.
- Click SAVE CHANGES.

By default, ChartMogul reclassifies upgrades and downgrades that occur within 60 minutes of a new subscription or churn. We recommend keeping this on. You can set the window from 1 minute to 90 days. To disable it, select Never reclassify subscription activity.
For example, when reclassification of subscription activity is on and a new customer purchases multiple new subscriptions at the same time, ChartMogul classifies them both as a New Business MRR movement (vs. New Business followed by Expansion).
You can see a summary of these grouped events on the customer's record.

When reclassification of subscription activity is off, a new subscription that consists of two plans will generate one New Business MRR movement and one Expansion MRR movement.
Reclassification of subscription activity also groups movements for Churn (when a customer cancels) and Reactivation (when a churned customer subscribes again).
If both a Contraction (a decrease in a customer's MRR) and an Expansion (an increase in a customer's MRR) occur within the selected window, ChartMogul still classifies them separately — but groups them on the customer's page based on the net effect.
For example, a customer's overall MRR increases by $100: they downgrade Plan A by $50 (a Contraction) and add a $150 add-on (an Expansion). ChartMogul records both movements separately and reflects them in the MRR breakdown of the reports.
How Reclassification of Subscription Activity Affects Your Reports
Except for the MRR Movements report, reclassification of subscription activity does not affect your reports, but it does influence their breakdown in the Report Data table. For example, when enabled, the number of MRR movements contributing to New Business, Churn and Reactivation typically increase, while Expansion and Contraction typically decrease.
Changing this setting triggers a data reprocess. You'll see updates on individual customer pages right away, but report breakdowns take longer to update. Your data won't be complete or accurate until reprocessing finishes.
