Adding sample data

You'll need to be an Owner or Admin to complete the steps outlined in this article.

Add sample data to a custom source to get familiar with how ChartMogul uses data to generate subscriptions and calculate metrics and analytics.

Once you’re familiar with the data in your account, delete sample data and import your data.

Here's what we cover in this article:

Adding sample data

There are two methods for generating subscriptions and metrics in ChartMogul: using invoice data or using subscription data. Learn more about the differences.

To understand how ChartMogul generates subscriptions and metrics using invoices, add sample data when creating a source. Upload sample data using CSV to understand both methods.

Adding sample data when creating a source

To add sample data when creating a source:

  1. Navigate to Settings & Data > Sources.
  2. Click Add Source and select Custom Source.
  3. Give your source a name and select Include sample data.
  4. Click NEXT.

ChartMogul adds sample data for customers, invoices, invoice line items, transactions, subscription events, subscriptions and plans.

Adding sample data using CSV

To add sample data using CSV files, download a zip file for the method you’d like to use to generate subscriptions and upload the files to a custom source:

  • Invoice data — contains sample files with customers, contacts, plans, invoices, invoice line items, transactions and subscription events
  • Manual subscription data — contains sample files with customers, contacts, plans and manual subscriptions

Or, download a sample CSV file for a specific dataset:

If your account has existing data, click Export CSV. ChartMogul gives you the option to export the dataset you’re viewing or all data in the dataset.

Editing sample data

Once added, you can review data in each table and make edits by navigating to Sources or a customer record.

Navigate to the row you need to adjust and click the Edit icon.

Edit the data.

Save your changes by clicking the green checkmark.

Deleting sample data

This action is permanent and cannot be undone.

After you've performed tests with sample data, delete it from ChartMogul, so it no longer contributes to your metrics.

Navigate to the source settings and select Delete This Source.

Or, use the checkboxes in the table rows to select all rows and delete all data.
