Adding sample data

Sample data is placeholder data you can load into ChartMogul to see how it generates subscriptions and calculates metrics — without connecting your real billing system. Add it to a custom source to explore the product before importing your own data.

Once you’re familiar with the data in your account, delete sample data and import your data.

Adding sample data

ChartMogul supports two methods for generating subscriptions and metrics: invoice data (ChartMogul derives subscriptions from your invoices) and manual subscription data (you define subscriptions directly). Learn more about the differences.

To understand how ChartMogul generates subscriptions and metrics using invoices, add sample data when creating a source. Upload sample data using CSV to understand both methods.

Adding sample data when creating a source

To add sample data when creating a source:

1. Navigate to Settings > Sources.
2. Click Add Source and select Custom Source.
3. Give your source a name and select Include sample data.
4. Click NEXT.

ChartMogul adds sample data for customers, invoices, invoice line items, transactions, subscription events, subscriptions and plans.

Adding sample data using CSV

To add sample data using CSV files, download a zip file for the method you’d like to use to generate subscriptions and upload the files to a custom source:

• Invoice data — contains sample files with customers, contacts, plans, invoices, invoice line items, transactions and subscription events
• Manual subscription data — contains sample files with customers, contacts, plans and manual subscriptions

Or, download a sample CSV file for a specific dataset:

• Customers
• Contacts
• Plans
• Invoices
• Invoice Line Items
• Transactions
• Subscription Events
• Manual Subscriptions

If your account has existing data, click Export CSV. ChartMogul gives you the option to export the dataset you’re viewing or all data in the dataset.

How to Edit Sample Data

To review and edit sample data, go to Sources or open a customer record.

1. Find the row you want to change and click the :edit~gray: Edit icon.

   

2. Edit the data.

   

3. Click the :tick~green: green checkmark to save your changes.

   

How to Delete Sample Data

Once you've finished testing, delete the sample data so it doesn't affect your metrics.

Choose one of these methods:

• Go to the source settings and select Delete This Source.
• Use the checkboxes in the table rows to select all rows, then delete all data.
