Chart: Paid Subscribers

The Paid Subscribers chart tracks the total number of customers with at least one active or past due paid subscription over time.

For SaaS businesses, subscriber count is a core growth metric — it shows how your paying customer base is expanding or contracting, and unlike subscription counts, each customer is counted once regardless of how many plans they hold.

If you're new to ChartMogul, get to know how charts work.

This chart is called Paid Subscribers for accounts with free subscription support. For accounts where free subscription support hasn't been enabled, this chart is called Subscribers. Learn more.

Chart Notes

  • Customers with at least one Active or Past due paid subscription contribute to this chart. Customers who are Leads or Cancelled do not contribute to this chart. Learn more about customer and subscription statuses.
  • This chart does not include customers with free subscriptions only.
  • Customers remain Active or Past due until either their subscriptions are canceled in your billing system, or they churn as a result of the Handling Past-due Subscriptions setting.
  • A customer with multiple subscriptions is counted as one subscriber.

Free subscriptions

On October 2, 2025, we introduced a new “trial” line item type and enabled support for zero-value subscription line items. We’re gradually making the functionality available to all accounts. If you have this feature enabled:

  • Subscribers is renamed to Paid Subscribers and only includes customers with paid subscriptions.
  • A new chart, All Subscribers, allows you to track both free and paid subscribers.

Calculation

ChartMogul calculates Subscribers as the total number of all customers with an active or past due subscription in a given period.

Chart Data

The Chart Data table for Subscribers works differently from other charts. It provides the following breakdown:

  • New Subscribers — The number of customers who became subscribers in the report interval. This label is called Paid Subscribers for accounts with free subscription support. Learn more.
  • Reactivated Subscribers — The number of subscribers who reactivated in the report interval.
  • Churned Subscribers — The number of subscribers who churned during the report interval and were still canceled at the end of the period.
  • Subscribed & Churned — The number of subscribers who subscribed and churned within the report interval.
  • Churned & Reactivated — The number of subscribers who churned and reactivated within the report interval. Shown for informational purposes only, as these subscribers do not impact the metric.
  • Net Change — The net change in the number of subscribers from the previous report interval.
  • Subscribers Entering Segment — When filtering by plan, the number of subscribers entering the applied segment within the report interval.
  • Subscribers Leaving Segment — When filtering by plan, the number of subscribers leaving the applied segment within the report interval.
  • Total Subscribers — The total number of subscribers in the report interval.
  • Change — The increase or decrease in Total Subscribers from the previous report interval, shown as a percentage.
