Configuring data settings

ChartMogul's data settings let Admins and Owners configure account-wide preferences that control how subscription data is displayed and calculated across all reports.

Access the settings by navigating to Settings & Data > Data Settings. Use the drop-downs to configure the following options:

Click SAVE CHANGES to apply your selections.

Some accounts have an additional setting, Free customer handling.

Read a separate article about data settings specific to Subscription Analytics.

Changing your data settings requires ChartMogul to recalculate and update data across your account. This process takes place in the background and typically completes within a few minutes.

Display customers by

Choose a default customer display name to be used in activities, movements, and customer lists: Company name, Full name or Email address.

When the preferred name is not available, ChartMogul uses a fallback:

Displayed element 1st Fallback 2nd Fallback 3rd Fallback
Company name Full name Email address External IDs
Full name Company name Email address External IDs
Email address External IDs

External IDs are unique identifiers from your billing system, such as a Billing System ID or Subscriber ID.

Timezone

Select an appropriate time zone for your account. ChartMogul uses this time zone for all dates and timestamps displayed throughout the platform.

Primary currency

Select a primary currency for your account. ChartMogul uses this currency to report revenue, calculate subscription metrics, and opportunity values.

ChartMogul displays the customer’s currency in brackets next to their MRR movements and transaction amounts (in email notifications, data tables and on their customer record) when a customer’s currency differs from your primary currency.

Read about ChartMogul’s support for 167 currencies and how we handle currency conversions.

Start the week on

Set the first day of your week to either Sunday or Monday. ChartMogul uses this day to calculate and present MRR metrics on a weekly basis (i.e., when viewing the chart with the Week measurement interval selected).

Record churn in your reports

This setting is available to Subscription Analytics users. ChartMogul offers three churn recognition options:

  • When a subscription is marked as canceled in the billing system
  • At the end of the final subscription service period
  • As soon as a customer schedules cancellation

Reclassify upgrades/downgrades that occur

This setting is available to Subscription Analytics users. By default, customers who purchase two subscriptions at once will have a New Business movement and an Expansion movement. With this setting enabled, ChartMogul reports two movements and classifies both as New Business.

Free customer handling

This setting is available to some Subscription Analytics accounts created before January 30, 2025. Learn more about free customer handling.
